Crochet Stitch Pattern # 5

For stitch pattern # 5, we have a basic mesh stitch pattern featuring staggered fans throughout the rows. This stitch pattern is good for intermediate crocheters and advanced beginners and above.  For this stitch pattern, you need to know single crochet, double crochet, chain stitches, double crochet 2 together and double crochet 3 together.  

There is a special stitch in this pattern called a shell, which will be defined below.   I love this stitch pattern because it works up quickly, like any basic mesh stitch.  In my opinion, this pattern needs to be blocked to achieve a good stitch definition.  

Special Stitch: Shell = (dc3tog + ch 3 + dc3tog +ch 3 + dc3tog)

Foundation:  Multiples of 12 + 2

Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook,  *ch 4, sk 2, sc*, repeat * across.  

Row 2: Ch 1, turn dc, ch 2, *sc in next ch sp, ch 4*, repeat * until sc in last ch sp, ch 2, dc in last st.  

Row 3: Ch 1, turn, sc, ch 4, *sc in next ch4 sp, shell in next ch sp, sc in next ch sp, ch 4, sc in next ch sp,  ch 4*, repeat * until last ch4 sp has sc, ch 4, sc in last st. 

Row 4: Ch 1, turn dc, ch 2, *sc in next ch sp, ch 4*, repeat * until sc in last ch sp, ch 2, dc in last st.  

Row 5: Ch 1, turn, sc, *ch 4, sc in next ch 4 sp*, repeat * until last ch 4 sp has sc, ch 4, sc in last st. 

Row 6:  Ch 1, turn dc, ch 2, *sc in next ch sp, ch 4*, repeat * until sc in last ch sp, ch 2, dc in last st.  

Row 7: Ch 1, turn, dc2tog, ch 3, dc3tog in ch 2 sp, *sc in next ch sp, ch 4, sc in next ch sp,  ch 4, shell*, repeat * until sc in last ch 4 sp, dc3tog in ch 2 sp, ch 3, dc2tog in last st. 

Row 8: Ch 1, turn dc, ch 2, *sc in next ch sp, ch 4*, repeat * until sc in last ch sp, ch 2, dc in last st.  

Row 9:  Ch 1, turn, sc, *ch 4, sc in next ch sp*, repeat * until last ch 4 sp has sc, ch 4, sc in last st. 

Repeat rows 2 - 9.
